India Are Asia’s Champions Again
India’s women’s cricket team has won the Women’s Asia Cup after defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The victory gives India a record eighth Asia Cup title and confirms the team’s continued dominance in women’s cricket across the continent. After losing the previous edition’s final to Sri Lanka, India returned with a clear purpose and delivered a confident performance from the opening over.
It was more than just another trophy. It was a strong response after the disappointment of 2024.
Shafali and Smriti Set the Tone
India won the toss and chose to bat first. The decision immediately paid off as openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana produced one of the most important partnerships of the tournament.
Shafali played with her trademark attacking style, scoring 68 runs from just 39 balls. She also recorded the fastest fifty in Women’s Asia Cup history, reaching the milestone in only 24 balls.
